Equity management startup Capboard raises 285k€ in pre-seed funding

Capboard, a platform designed to manage equity, investors and equity plans for employees, has successfully closed an investment round of 285,000 euro with the aim of becoming leaders in southern Europe and Latin America. With this new financing round, the company aims to position itself as a leader for small and medium businesses.

This investment comes from Bewa7er Market, parent company of Indexa Capital, and prominent business angels such as Andrés Bou, founder of Social Point; Javier Fondevila and Bernat Ripoll, founders of Holded; Iñaki Ecenarro, founder of Trovit; Carlos Blanco, founder of Nuclio and Encomenda VC; and Albert Armengol, founder of Doctoralia.

“After digitizing and automating cap tables and ESOP for more than 450 companies, we have closed an investment round that will allow us to continue growing. This cash injection gives us the runway we need to develop new lines of business, to further improve the relationship between startups and their investors”, says Pol Gomà, founder and CEO of the Spanish company.

Capboard was born after the company’s founders, Pol Gomà (CEO) and Marc Jordana (CTO), saw startups struggling to manage their Equity plans, as employees lacked visibility on the terms or value of their equity. Using their previous experience in companies such as Uber, GoTrendier, Rakuten and Grab, they decided to take on the challenge of streamlining equity management for European and Latin American companies.

The company’s existing solutions include cap table management, funding round simulation, convertible notes or secondary operations, and an investor reporting tool to help companies fundraise smarter.

The funding will be used to develop new business lines and optimize the existing product, while growing their marketing and engineering teams.

CAPBOARD HAS THE TRUST OF INVESTORS

François Derbaix, co-founder of Bewater Funds and Indexa Capital, has decided to back Capboard in its clear commitment to lead equity management in southern Europe and Latin America:

“We have invested in Capboard because a technological and legal solution is needed to help companies manage their Equity plans for employees and their investors. We have a lot of confidence in the Capboard team to be able to develop the best solution to manage the equity private companies in Europe”.

Andrés Bou, co-founder of Socialpoint, is excited about how Capboard can help employees:

“I decided to invest in Capboard because I believe that Employee Stock Option Plans are going to grow in Europe. One of the current problems with these plans is that employees with stock options do not have any visibility over their grants.”
