Woodea concludes first round of pre-seed funding worth 1.4 million euros

Woodea, a digital, industrialised and lean building company that offers sustainable construction based on the use of technical wood, has concluded a round of funding worth 1.4 million euros. The operation received support from benchmark business angels in several sectors, such as Jaime Carvajal y Urquijo, former vice-president of Ferrovial; Sergio Furió, founder and CEO of Creditas; Albert Armengol, founder of eConozco and Doctoralia; Marina Planas, CEO & co-founder of TheNTWK; Jesús Menéndez, a doctor of engineering with expertise in structural wood and an international Passivhaus certifier; and Juanjo Mostazo, co-founder and former CTO of Homa Games, among others.

Following the successful conclusion of this operation, the company set up in May 2022 and led by the entrepreneur and founder of Nautal, Octavi Uyà, now seeks to expand a team that already includes co-founders of recognised standing in the sector, such as Pablo Sáiz, architect, doctor of industrialised construction and author of the book entitled ‘La casa industrializada’, and Pablo Medina, an architect with expertise in manufacturing and supply chain with extensive experience in construction company management and the automotive sector.

Furthermore, this injection of fresh capital will enable Woodea to undertake the first projects on which it has reached agreements with various developers beneath an umbrella of complete financial confidence. Those partners include the impact developer behind the La Pinada Neighbourhood project, Zubi Cities. In 2023, Woodea will build 250 industrialised homes from wood using the Woodea Production System model, a system supported by advanced technology that enables the value of constructed buildings to be increased while reducing costs and deadlines.

Construction in wood to transform the sector

Woodea stems from a goal to transform the construction sector, acting as a driving force for positive global change. To achieve that, it efficiently delivers buildings that combine nature, technology and profitability while responding to new residential needs in the 21st century: affordable and sustainable housing at a comparable cost to that of traditional construction within substantially shorter project completion times and with less uncertainty (deadlines, budget control and quality).

This startup is an initiative by Zubi Labs, the impact venture builder forming part of Zubi Group, a group of impact companies led by the entrepreneur and investor Iker Marcaide, founder of the first company of Spanish origin to be listed on the NASDAQ: Flywire. Woodea has aligned itself with the purpose sought by the group to solve social and environmental challenges, and its commitment to industrialised construction enables it to reduce uncertainty by offering greater precision and transparency thanks to innovative processes that reduce waste and pollution while committing to such sustainable materials as wood.
