Tetuan Valley, the accelerator helping ideas come to life

Founded in 2009 and managed by Karel Escobar, Tetuan Valley is an accelerator that helps entrepreneurs turn their idea into a real business that can be tested by forming a community of entrepreneurs who help each other.

The company stands out because it uses methodology that adapts to the entrepreneurial ecosystem, but what makes it truly special is the attitude instilled in the entrepreneurs who go trough the different programmes, who come back to train new participants once they have finished.

The company operates all over Europe and collaborates with the European Commission. In 2018 the company also worked in India with the aim of kick-starting a self-sustaining ecosystem that fosters high-level interactions and technology and innovation partnerships that benefit both regions.

The accelerator offers startups a two-month training programme with experienced entrepreneurs who help turn their ideas into a business. The programme is completely free and made up of two-hour weekly sessions with talks from mentors and another session for pitch practice and feedback.

The programme ends with a Demo Day at Google Campus Madrid, where the startups present their projects to important agents in the ecosystem. Once the programme ends, the participants are entitled to a set of perks and discounts as well as use of the incubator space at Google Campus Madrid.

The startups can also participate in European Commission projects that offer networking opportunities, trips and other aid for entrepreneurs.

GOALS FOR THE FUTURE

The company has started working in schools with students aged 12-18. The aim is to teach students that failure is a part of learning, how to work collaboratively and how to solve problems. These activities that promote awareness and entrepreneurial spirit can improve performance in the classroom through new methodologies.

Tetuan Valley has also worked on international projects such as programmes with the European Commission to promote entrepreneurship among young people in Europe. Not to mention with leading organisations such as WISE in developing social projects focused on refugees.

This year the company will focus on developing necessary educational programmes for different entities and growing international projects by reaching out to entrepreneurs from all over the world.
