Naru Intelligence is a San Sebastian-based startup specialized in Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems for biomedicine that improves results for each patient. It develops Machine Learning (ML) technology for the bio-health field that improves health service results and contributes to accelerating clinical and pharmaceutical research. It was founded in 2017 by Maider Alberich and Eider Sanchez with the objective of allowing each patient to benefit from what the system learns from the rest of the patients, improving the quality of life of the patients in a personalized way.

Currently, the company has carried out a capital increase of 1.000.000 euros with the Mondragón Fondo de Promoción FCR fund managed by Clave Capital, ORZA, INNVIERTE from CDTI and ULMA, to undertake the market launch of its product Step, strengthen the team and scale up the product to new diseases. ‘Step’ is an intelligent cloud system aimed at improving results in the monitoring of Severe Adverse Events in patients with cancer and other serious chronic diseases.

Step is based on Artificial Intelligence tools that analyze data from the entire population to learn from each patient. Its objective is to support Naru Intelligence doctors and hospitals to improve decision making, and the pharmaceutical industry to help show the real response of different patient profiles to treatments. The Step medical device provides high quality guaranties in terms of security and data protection. It has generated a strong interest in the two main markets: at the hospital level, with public hospitals and health systems and private hospital groups that rely on its technology; as well as at large pharmaceutical laboratories that are betting on digital solutions for real world data (Real World Data).

Naru Intelligence, in which Basque Fondo holds a participation since 2018, has received recognition and support from, among others, the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, the Biozientziak Gipuzkoa Foundation, the Basque Government and Fomento San Sebastian. It was selected in 2019 as the startup mentored by the Pfizer Foundation through its Angels4Innovation program and has received several awards such as the DonostiaINN Young Innovative Company Award 2019 or the Toribio Echevarria Internationalization Award 2019.
