DEXMA, a company that provides energy intelligence and management software, has taken a step forward in its international expansion plan by becoming the energy hub of technology firm Spacewell, a world reference in software for the management of intelligent spaces and buildings. The Barcelona-based company is now entering a new phase following the acquisition of 100% of its capital by Spacewell, with HQ in Antwerp and owned by Nemetschek Group, a global leading software company for the design, construction and operation of buildings listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

This corporate operation consolidates the success story of DEXMA, created in 2007 by the entrepreneurs Joan Pinyol and Guillem Corominas with the purpose of helping professionals and organisations to optimise their energy use. The company, which currently employs 45 people, offers energy solutions to more than 4.000 organisations in 30 countries. DEXMA projects further growth during the coming years and plans to hire up to 20 extra people during the coming year, among them engineers, developers, marketing and sales staff.

SYNERGY OF THE PRODUCTS OFFERED

According to Joan Pinyol, co-founder and CEO of DEXMA: “DEXMA is in a race for a more sustainable future, helping global organisations of all sizes to track and optimise their energy consumption and reduce their carbon footprint. Our mission is to accelerate the transition to a carbon-neutral economy”.

Currently, buildings account for 30 percent of final energy consumption and 28 percent of CO2 emissions. In this regard, the energy intensity per square meter (kWh/m2) of the global buildings sector needs to improve on average by 30% by 2030 (compared to 2015) to be on track to meet global climate ambitions set forth in the Paris Agreement.

“This acquisition is a huge plus for customers aiming to become more sustainable in their operations. Energy management is an important element in creating truly autonomous buildings that automatically adapt their behaviours to the occupants and stakeholders,” says Koen Matthijs, Chief Division Officer, Operate & Manage Division at the Nemetschek Group. “DEXMA perfectly complements our existing portfolio for facility management, property management and smart building. Adding energy management gives us a strong competitive edge and our customers benefit from a total solution to operate their buildings”, states Matthijs.

“With this acquisition, we can leverage strong data synergies. DEXMA will be able to benefit from the data provided by the sensors that feed our software and vice versa. In addition, both platforms are independent from equipment manufacturers, which makes it easier for our solutions to be future proof,” explains Eric Van Bael, CEO of Spacewell. “This is a win-win situation for all companies wishing to increase their sustainability,” adds Van Bael.

THE INTEGRATION

The company joins the group under the umbrella of Spacewell with which it shares synergies in the field of smart buildings. Likewise, DEXMA customers will have access to Spacewell products, which will be integrated within DEXMA products.

Until now, Spacewell’s clients have been able to efficiently manage their buildings and workplaces, analyse utilisation data, and make data-driven decisions. Thanks to the integration with DEXMA, building management will now also include the energetic and environmental component in these decisions.

Spacewell will have in its portfolio the artificial intelligence software platform called DEXMA Platform, a cloud-based tool that combines big data analytics and artificial intelligence with energy efficiency. DEXMA Platform will help its customers detect, analyse and optimise energy consumption and costs, while becoming more sustainable. Innovation in sustainability is a constant at DEXMA: in September it launched an indoor air quality solution to reduce the impact of COVID-19 on office buildings and other spaces; and in November it completed its portfolio with the automated energy manager DEXMA Optimise, powered by artificial intelligence.

“We’re honoured to join Spacewell and the Nemetschek Group, which are among the 50 Sustainability and Climate Leaders recognised by the United Nations. At DEXMA we will work relentlessly to build a more sustainable future”, adds Pinyol.
