BigGuardian, a company specialized in remote clinical diagnostics for production animals, has closed a €1.5 million funding round led by Swanlaab Innvierte Agrifood-Tech, with the participation of Aval-CLM.
This capital injection will allow the company to improve the production costs of its platform, strengthen its commercial structure, and accelerate growth in strategic markets, with the goal of increasing its 2025 revenue tenfold. The investment will also support the evolution of its technology and large-scale deployment in cattle and swine farms.
Technology to anticipate infectious diseases
BigGuardian has developed its own continuous livestock body temperature monitoring platform, based on IoT devices and advanced data analytics, enabling early detection of infectious diseases. This early warning allows for more effective veterinary intervention, reducing production losses and improving farm health management.
The use of this technology helps optimize productivity indicators, improve animal welfare, and reduce the unnecessary use of antibiotics in a sector that is critical to global food security and subject to increasing regulatory and sustainability requirements.
In addition, BigGuardian is strongly committed to the creation and implementation of new technologies in rural work environments. The team behind the platform has extensive experience in production animal veterinary medicine, closely aligned with the sector’s needs, combined with young talent that brings a natural affinity for new IoT technologies.
“We substantially reduce the biggest problem facing the global livestock industry; infectious diseases are the leading cause of economic losses. This is a global problem addressed with a global solution that is easily deployable on farms worldwide,” says Iñaki Espinosa, veterinarian and co-founder of BigGuardian.
“BigGuardian provides a clear and scalable technological solution to one of the major structural challenges in livestock farming: the early detection of infectious diseases. Its practical, data-driven approach, which is easy to implement on farms, fits perfectly with our investment thesis focused on scalable technological solutions that address structural challenges in the agri-food system,” says Ángel Santos, Partner at Swanlaab Innvierte Agrifood-Tech.
