Amelia Virtual Care welcomes new investors and strengthens its management team

Amelia Virtual Care, mental health technology company with offices in Barcelona and San Francisco, announces today the appointment of Afsana Akhter as new CEO, and Raúl Peris as General Director of Operations, executives with an extensive track record in the healthtech industry in Europe and the US. The company has also received new funding from ENDRA, international pledge fund managed from London, and CDTI, entity dependent of the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation with its venture capital program called Innvierte.

Amelia has developed the largest and most complete virtual reality platform in mental health, allowing professionals to treat a wide range of mental health disorders from common phobias to anxiety and depression. With over 60 employees and more than 200,000 VR sessions delivered, Amelia is present worldwide being the United States its main market. The new financing and management team will boost the company’s growth in this market, strengthening its commercial activity and clinical evidence.

Afsana Akhter, CEO, has a long-time experience working with the main healthcare providers and payers in the US in American companies such as Livongo and Kiio. Raúl Peris, General Director of Operations, has a strong track record growing and leading the operations of technology companies such as Savana Medical, Cimpress and Vistaprint.

In 2019 Amelia closed a €6 million Series A led by Sabadell Asabys and Caixa Capital Risc which allowed them to further develop its technology and consolidate its presence in Europe and the US.
