Demium Startups is a network of incubators dedicated to identifying the best entrepreneurial talent and connecting it with the best business opportunities at the global level, building innovative, scalable and investible tech businesses.
Founded in 2013 by the Jorge Dobón (CEO), Ismael Teijón and Aitor Sancho, the company whose name was inspired by Demiurge was initially supported by its founders and team members, having also received private investment and funds.
CREATING STARTUPS
What makes Demium different is that it creates startups from scratch. Where most incubators require an idea or working team, to participate in Demium’s ‘AllStartup’ program is not necessary to have either. Demium presents several business ideas and creates balanced and complementary teams, giving them free rein to show their full potential. In just 72 hours, teams cover all stages in the validation process of a startup. The best candidates are selected to participate in the Demium Startups six-month incubation program. That is how they carefully select each candidate individually.
Once the incubation begins, Demium works together with founders, providing the necessary tools to help them build the “Dream Team”, validate their business idea, create an MVP, identify the product-marker fit, launch a scalable solution and find investment. All using models that have succeeded elsewhere and their own methodology, based on Lean Startup, SCRUM and Agile.
32 STARTUPS LAUNCHED
It is thought this careful selection and dedicated expertise, that Demium helps reducing the risk of launching a startup. Since its foundation, Demium has produced 32 startups, which have generated more than 17M€ and present a survival rate of 78%. With 15 projects currently in incubation, Demium continues to launch programs to discover the best entrepreneurial talent.
Some of their successful cases include: Citibox, Singularu, Cuidum, Influencity, Hannun, Relendo, Tuyalum Sports, Entrenar.me, Frikitrip, HelloUmi, Fotawa, Homyspace, iAmarre, Tatooistic, Trivium, Tutorio and Splitfy.
Currently, they are 54 partners, who have all contributed with different amounts, ranging from 5K to 250K, giving the company an advantage because, as a network, the financial needs for the first rounds of startups are met by the partners.
The company’s value is created through their portfolio. Demium participates with 15 % in the constitution of a project, and in some projects, it has maintained or even increased this participation.
CONSOLIDATING AND EXPANDING
For the future, Dobón, Teijón and Sancho want to focus on strengthening their presence in Spain. Originally based in Valencia, Demium now operates in five major Spanish cities (Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao, Malaga and Valencia). In addition to Demium Startups, they also have a vertical business dedicated to the videogaming sector – Demium Games – and have recently created another vertical business – Oarsis – aiming at developing startups using VR/AR or both, which is based in Madrid.
